Israel’s Energy Minister Eli Cohen said on Thursday, June 20, that his department has been preparing for any scenario for several months in order to ensure the country’s energy supply in the event of an emergency, The Jerusalem Post writes.
According to the publication, Cohen said the following. “We are preparing for different scenarios, holding discussions and evaluating the situation. Over the last few months we have increased our capacity and purchased a lot of equipment to ensure we have backup systems. Israel can generate electricity from many sources because we have gas extraction facilities, huge coal reserves and we can generate renewable energy. The possibility of power outages for many days in a row is very small. In the event of a conflict, the electricity in Israel can be cut off for just a few hours, but the blackout in Lebanon will last for months.”
