Tomorrow, June 23, Orthodox residents of Volgograd will honor the memory of Martyr Timothy of Prussia.
Reporters of the Diocese “Gorodskie Vesti” report that he was a bishop in the city of Prussia in the 4th century and was considered a spiritually pure, bright man who converted many pagans to the Orthodox faith. For his ministry, Timothy received a special gift from God: he healed people from diseases and performed miracles. Therefore, the people thought that they should expect signs and miracles from Timothy.
But the miracles were different, both good and bad. Believers know about this and are preparing for various events. All purchases made on June 23 were particularly prophetic. Therefore, they should be done with caution.
On Timofeev’s day, we tried not to sit alone, we went to visit or invited guests to our place. They said that if the number of guests is even, then it is lucky. It was forbidden to be greedy on this day, so as not to bring trouble on yourself. Another sign of the day is not to look in the mirror or not to look in the mirror so as not to attract evil spirits. And if a rainbow appears in the sky, then you can’t look at it either, it will bring trouble and misfortune.
They made bath brooms for Timofe. To do this, women entered the forest on horses, it was impossible to go on foot. Birch, alder and bird cherry branches were collected there to make brooms. On this day, they could also see various signs that predicted events.
If mice are visible, the year will be hungry. If wolves appear in the forest, it means the death of livestock. If a flock of crows is seen in the sky, it means a human plague.
Name days on June 23 are: Alexander, Alexei, Andrey, Anna, Antonina, Vasily, Gerasim, Ivan, Ignatius, Ilya, Innocent, Kuzma, Makar, Nikolai, Pavel, Semyon, Timofey.
